If you didn't make the Parent Association's informational meeting yesterday about senior activities, no worries! We took notes! Ann Laughlin, Cheslea Porteous and Karen Fesmire were all very helpful in explaining some of the social expectations of our upcoming senior year. Thank you so much ladies!
First and foremost, Kim Jordan (son, David Jordan) will be our Senior Class Representative next year. THANK YOU KIM! I think most of us are subscribed to this blog already, but if you have some parent friends who are not, please encourage them to because it will be her way of communicating all events with us. We also learned yesterday that there are 108 boys in the Class of 2017 and that Edward Apple will be joining our class this year ~ WELCOME to our class Apple family!
Of course - more information about ALL events will be communicated accordingly, but this is just a bit of what we can expect:
Senior Convocation Breakfast - This breakfast is hosted at a TBD home close to school and is held the morning of convocation. It is a quick event for the boys because it is early and BEFORE convocation, but was stressed that it was important for all of the boys to attend because it is a tradition and because there is a picture made that morning that they will want to be included in.
Back to School Day Senior Parent Luncheon - Back to School Day is Wednesday, September 14 and after we go through the boys schedule, there will be a luncheon for senior parents with Mr. Haguewood.
Senior Rendezvous Party - It is a tradition for the seniors to have this dinner at at the end of April. We covered this party a little more in detail for a few reasons... When the TBD chairperson begins planning the party, they will ask senior parents if they would like to 'host'. Any parents that become a 'host' are also invited to attend the dinner. They wanted to stress that ALL BOYS are included whether their parents 'host' or not, but that only 'host' parents may attend. Also at this dinner, there is a senior slideshow/movie that all of the boys will receive a copy of. They strongly suggested that we begin thinking about this slideshow now. We will all be asked for a few baby pictures and pictures of our boys through the years at MUS and especially their senior year. ONLY MUS students can be in these pictures ~ no girls, no family, no friends from other schools ~ only the boys in our class.
There will be many other class-planned parent events throughout the year including the senior parent cocktail party, and a few scattered wine and cheese or brunch events for the moms. If you are interested in hosting ANYTHING at your home, please let Kim Jordan know.
There was also some discussion about senior pictures. The boys received an email from Terry Balton in April that they were to forward to their parents about senior portraits at Holland Studio in Germantown. MUS boys have their senior composite/yearbook picture made in their coat and tie. If the boys do not get this picture done over the summer, MUS can use the picture that is made on the first day of school, but they suggest to do it at the studio so that you will have more options. The Holland Studio website is www.hollandstudio.net
Karen and Cheslea said senior year will fly by so take it all in and cherish every moment!
